Doppler Sonography Has Proven To Be One of the Most Effective Imaging Techniques
The term Sonography in the present day medical parlance is one of the most widely heard term. A correct definition of this technique would be an imaging technique that is based on the ultrasound methodology that is used to visualize subcutaneous structures like muscles, tendons, vessels, joints, and other internal organs of the body. To get into the exact details of Doppler Sonography, it can be defined as a technique that is used to determine whether the structures under observation are moving away from the probe or towards it, using the Doppler Effect. Another aspect of the structure under observation that is noticed is the relative velocity with which it is moving. The speed and velocity of the blood flow can be determined by measuring the shift in the frequency of the selected blood sample. The method of Doppler sonography is very much useful in carrying out cardiovascular studies. It is also helpful in tracing the reverse blood flow in the liver vasculature.
In majority of the cases the pulsed Doppler is used in the Sonographic machines to measure velocity. Almost in all the cases that use pulsed Doppler, the relative phase change of the pulses is used to determine the shift in the frequency. The method of pulsed Doppler has its advantages as well as disadvantages. The most important advantage is the ease with which the distance information can be obtained. Once it is obtained the gain correction can be applied. The major disadvantage is that the measurement that is obtained could suffer from aliasing.
