Interventional Vascular Radiology Promises to Give Advanced Imaging of the Body Organs

Interventional radiology is a subspecialty of radiology in which minimally invasive procedure can be performed with the help of image guidance. Such procedures can also be referred as vascular and interventional radiology for the purely diagnostic purposes. Interventional radiologists can treat patient as well as diagnosis of disease. These experts treat the ever-widening range of conditions inside the body from outside by inserting small instruments or tools (catheters).

Under the interventional radiology procedures, physicians use various X-ray and imaging techniques (i.e. computed tomography, magnetic resonance imaging scanners, and ultrasound scanners). These imaging techniques are used by the radiologists in the correct diagnosis as well as treatment of a variety of diseases. These techniques have proved to be very helpful in diagnosing some of the most perilous diseases.

It offers an alternative to the surgical treatment of many conditions and can remove the need for hospitalization. There are certain specified procedures performed by the interventional radiologists. These procedures are angiography, angioplasty, embolization, gastrostomy tubes, intravascular ultrasound, stent placement, needle biopsy, foreign body extraction, blood clot filters, injection of clot-lysing agents, catheters insertions etc.

The interventional radiologists are eligible to take the board examination given by the American Board of Radiology. Most of them have completed an interventional radiology fellowship training program. Many of the invasive treatment methods are careful guidance of the instruments. They are required to go through those areas of the body that are not easily visible by other methods. Interventional vascular radiology course promises to train adequately to professionals who could work closely with other physicians and play their role in the treatment.
