An Understanding of the Pediatric Interventional Radiology
The pediatric interventional radiology is considered as the latest addition in the field of interventional radiology. In fact it can be summarized as a subspecialty of the interventional radiology. The field of pediatric interventional radiology involves the imaging of the young adults, adolescents, children, infants, as well as infants and fetuses. Pediatric interventional radiology is very much different than the other interventional radiology that is performed on the adults. The main reason being the difference in the mind set of an adult and that of the children. There are many things that are to be taken care of while performing the pediatric interventional radiology.
Although in many countries the specialization in the pediatric radiology does not require any special qualification officially but in other countries the additional qualification is very much necessary. In order to perform the pediatric interventional radiology the radiologist has to complete radiology residency and two more years of subspecialty fellowship training before they can begin their career in the field of pediatric interventional radiology but that too only after they have cleared the examination of the official subspecialty certification.
Another main point that has to be taken into account is that many of the pediatric diseases might be the same as that in the adults yet there are many cases that are unique to the infants only. The pediatric interventional radiology also has to take into account the fact that the bodies of the adults as well as those of the children are very much different. The body as well as the internal organs of an infant to an adolescent are still in their growth phases and thus are following the growth patterns and phases. Specialized imaging as well as treatment is required in such cases.
