Prenatal Ultrasound – To Unfold Different Aspects Of Pregnancy

A prenatal ultrasound imaging technique uses high-frequency sound waves to check the development of the fetus. These sound waves are transmitted through the abdomen via transducer. The echoes are recorded and transformed into video for diagnosis.

The ultrasound is also conducted during pregnancy to show images of the baby, amniotic sac, placenta and ovaries. Anatomical abnormalities and birth defects can be detected on an ultrasound.

  • This imaging technique is also used for  guiding prenatal surgery and to ensure safe delivery of medications to the fetus
  •  To determine whether a cesarean delivery is needed
Generally prenatal ultrasound procedures are performed on the surface of the skin. A gel is applied, that acts as a conductive medium to enhance the quality of the image. As an alternative, transvaginal ultrasound is performed using a tubular probe that is inserted into the vaginal canal. The image quality is greatly enhanced. This test is used during early pregnancy to get clearer view of the uterus or ovaries if a problem is suspected. This test also determines the gestational age.
